Unforgettable Raid Bosses in World of Warcraft

Let’s take a trip down memory lane and look back at some of the best raid bosses in all of World of Warcraft.

There’s always that one boss that players think of as the most memorable. Depending on the reasons why it might come off as a good or bad experience. Nevertheless, the bosses in World of Warcraft are a mixed bag of sorts. Some have lore that is rich in story and wonder, others than to be glitchy due to Blizzard’s incompetence, and some bosses were just a massive disappointment. With more than 15 years’ worth of history, World of Warcraft has had its fair share of boss fights–especially for the players who stuck with them through thick and thin. One of the biggest streaming platforms to date, Twitch, has accumulated more than a million’s worth of views from streamers. Only a few know this, but one of Twitch’s most-watched content is the “Race for World First” competition during WoW’s Battle for Azeroth expansion.  Each expansion in WoW brought new raid bosses to the table. This is arguably what players are looking forward to the most. Raiding is one of the main activities in World of Warcraft, and it’s fun to boot (if the players know what they’re doing). Plus, players can get lots of rewards like WoW Mounts for sale without having to buy WoW gold.

1. The Lich King

Arthas the Lich King has been a fan-favorite of many players if they were to be asked what’s their favorite boss to fight against. This was a time where World of Warcraft was at its best and there was no need to buy WoW gold and WoW Mounts for sale just to get ahead of everyone else. Arthas Menethil is considered to be an iconic character that plays a crucial part in the overall game’s lore. Players could only do battle against him if they were able to reach the top part of his castle in the Icecrown Citadel raid. Since it’s a raid, the parties would have to defeat 11 other bosses first if they want to reach him. It’s a tall order, especially when the Wraith of Lich King expansion only allowed 10 and 25-man raids. As expected, the fight with the Lich King is incredibly difficult since Blizzard made the number of times that players could fight Arthas on the hardest difficulty level limited. If the players didn’t manage to beat Arthas after using up all of their tries, then that’s it. It’s a somewhat controversial move for Blizzard since that was their first time implementing such a thing, but at the end of it all, the Wrath of the Lich King expansion wouldn’t be great without having the Lich King himself be the final boss.

2. Illidan Stormrage

Illidan Stormrage, while now known as an iconic character in the World of Warcraft franchise, actually had his humble beginning start in the second expansion. It introduced several raids, including the Black Temple which is the second to the last raid that players could partake in back then. Illidan Stormrage was the main villain of the Burning Crusade. By betraying his kin and twin people for people, he became a Night Elf with demon-like qualities due to infusion. To get to him, players would first have to defeat 9 other bosses first who were difficult in their own right. Burning Crusade has been a favorite expansion of many players (mainly because of nostalgic reasons), and it’s easy to see why.

3. Naxxramas

Another contender from the Wraith of the Lich King expansion, Naxxramas was an entry-level raid that ultimately set the standard for the future raids in World of Warcraft. Just like in the other raids within the Wrath of the Lich King, Naxxramas was only applicable for 10 and 25-man parties. It was the largest raid in World of Warcraft to date. With 15 different bosses and 5 unique map areas to go over, Naxxramas was a well-crafted raid that was rewarding to undergo for many players despite investing hours of playtime just for it. There’s no other raid just like Naxxramas, but hopefully, Blizzard might do something similar to it again in the future.

Final Thoughts

There are many more raid bosses in World of Warcraft that we haven’t talked about, and with tons more to come in the future, the list of unforgettable bosses will no doubt keep growing.
