Why There’s More to Texas Than You Think

The Texas flag is the only one in the US to have a star on its own. It’s called a lone star because if you look closely you can see that there are actually six stars on the flag, not five.

The state capital is Austin, which was named after Stephen F. Austin who organized settlers in the area of Texas and was instrumental in bringing new settlers to the country from Europe.

Texans are known for being larger than life, but Texas also has a lot to offer as far as size goes. The state is over 268,000 square miles and borders five other states. There is actually more to do in Texas than you think which is why Google searches like apartments in Arlington, TX are trending upwards.

BBQ & Tex Mex

Tex-Mex and BBQ are two of the most popular cuisines in Texas. It’s no wonder that they often go hand in hand to create dishes such as BBQ tacos, BBQ burritos or even BBQ nachos.

A long time ago, these two cuisines were not so popular. In the 1930s, it was a common belief that Mexicans didn’t like to eat meat, and Texans loved it! But people started changing their minds when Mexican restaurants started serving dishes such as fajitas and tacos with meat.

Tex-Mex cuisine is a fusion of traditional Mexican cooking with Texan ingredients such as spicier chilies and tortillas made from wheat flour instead of corn.

Live Country Music is Plentiful

Texas is well-known for its country music scene. There’s a lot of live music being played in all sorts of venues. You can visit some of the most popular ones in the state: Billy Bob’s, Gruene Hall, or Luckenbach Texas Dance Hall.

On Saturdays in Austin, you might be able to catch an afternoon show at Threadgill’s World Headquarters and then head over to Barton Springs Pool for a dip or a picnic with a group of friends. In Houston, there are so many options that it can be difficult to decide where to go! One could try the Continental Club on White Oak Drive or The Big Easy on Richmond Avenue. You can see the schedule for country artists’ concerts here and find out more about the venues.

Live Rodeos

Live Rodeos in Texas are usually held for a charity or a good cause. They provide a great opportunity to have fun while also supporting the organization’s fundraising efforts.

These events usually consist of contests such as bull riding, barrel racing, and calf roping. The audience can watch these contestants compete for the highest score to win prizes.

Pro Sports Teams

The Lone Star State is the perfect place for sports. Texans love their football, baseball, basketball and hockey teams. They are always in the running for championships and have some of the most loyal fans in the country.

Texas is home to multiple MLB, NBA, NFL, and colleges, while a single NHL team calls Texas its home.
