Since the invention of wigs, they have been a lifesaver for millions of women worldwide over the years. There are times when you need to get going and you don’t have the time to properly style your hair, putting on a wig will save you the stress while making you look pretty.

Wigs don’t differ much from our natural hair and just like our natural hair, if they are not properly taken care of, they’ll get tangled up, look messy, and eventually become old. Treating or taking care of your wig will have your wig looking new and fresh for long.

How can I perfectly treat my wig? I’m glad you asked. Continue reading to learn how to perfectly treat your wig.

How to treat your wig perfectly

Step 1: Preparing to wash the wig

Use your fingers to gently remove tangles. Alternatively, you can use a wide-tooth comb to achieve the same goal. Start from the ends and slowly move towards the roots to prevent damage. Avoid brushing the hair in this step.

Step 2: Pre-wash the wig using natural oil

The first step to take in making your wig look shiny, soft, and beautiful is by applying a natural oil like coconut oil or Moroccan oil all over your wig.

Step 3: Shampoo the wig

The next step involves rinsing off all the pre-wash oil from the wig. While washing the wig, ensure that your running water is running in the same direction as the wig to prevent the wig from tangling. After washing the wig, carefully lather your wig using a wig shampoo.

Step 4: Moisturize the wig

Now rinse off all the moisturizing shampoo and apply some moisturizing conditioner. Ensure that your wig is properly and thoroughly covered with a wig conditioner.

When moisturizing the wig, pay close attention to the tips and nape of your wig and add extra conditioner there. The reason is that once your wig starts losing its bounce and becomes, the effect is noticeable on the tip and nape.

After applying the moisturizing, targeting specific areas (nape and tip), allow the moisturizing conditioner to stay on the wig for about three to five minutes before washing off the conditioner.

Tangles can form in this stage. So if you notice tangles, gently run your finger or comb through the wig until all the knots formed are removed.

Step 5: Dry the wig

After moisturizing the wig for 3-5 minutes, rinse the wig by holding it under running water until the wig is thoroughly washed (the water runs clear).

Now you have rinsed out all the product from the wig, the next step and final step is to dry the wig. When drying the wig, apply caution to avoid creating tangles or damaging the wig. Gently squeeze the wig to remove excess water before placing the wig on a dry towel. Cover the wig using the other half of the towel and gently press to remove excess water.

Once you have removed all the excess water, place the wig on a wig stand and give it time to get air-dried.

There you have it! If you are looking for quick and easy steps to follow in order to perfectly treat your wig, then following the steps above will surely help you in achieving that goal.
